Fight against armyworm : FAO offers financial support to Zambia .

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has released $400,000 to support the Zambian government’s effort in the fight against armyworm in some parts of the country.

This was made known by the Zambia FAO’s country representative George Okech , who said the armyworm was a permanent predator in the crop field that posed a threat to crop yields even in the forth coming farming season.

The armyworm is known as common early season pest that can cause occasional losses in corn and should be monitored for in the spring. Infestations usually first develop in fields of small grains or in other grass cover crops. In conventional tillage systems, partially-grown larvae can migrate into corn fields from grassy waterways or wheat fields.
