FADAM 111 Project disburses N94M Grant .

The FADAMA III Project in Jigawa state, Northern Nigeria has started the disbursement of N94 million grant to 253 beneficiaries of its Graduates Unemployed Youth and Women Support Scheme (GUYS) as part of efforts to improve the agricultural sector.

The state Project Coordinator, Alhaji Aminu Isa, who stated this during the inauguration of the programme in Dutse, said that after thorough screening and verification, 253 of the trainees were found to be genuinely unemployed.

The coordinator added that 72 of the beneficiaries were trained on rice production, four on Maize production, eight on sorghum production.

Others are 26 on cattle fattening, 38 on goat and sheep fattening, 11 on fish production, 86 poultry, two on rice thrashing and six on rice processing.

According to him, the programme is being funded by the World Bank under FADAMA III Additional Financing (AF).

Isa said that the grant was to enable the beneficiaries set up their own agricultural ventures.

He therefore urged the beneficiaries to cooperate with state FADAMA office for the successful implementation of the programme.

“I also want to use this opportunity to call on you (beneficiaries) to work closely with your supervisors and mentors for the successful implementation of the FADAMA GUYS grant support by the World Bank.

“This is to achieve its objective of youth employment for economic empowerment under agriculture.

“Adequate arrangements were made for effective supervision and monitoring of the implementation of the programme by engaging mentors who are professional agronomists, livestock veterinary officers,” he explained.
